“Our culture is very much English and Spanish and we celebrate our culture regardless of language,” said Pilar Lamadrid, vice president of specials for Telemundo, a day before the show during rehearsals at the Hollywood theater. Modeled after Dick Clark’s American Music Awards, the world’s biggest fan-voted award show set to air next month, the night marked the first Spanish language version of the awards show. “To our English speaking audience, welcome to the American Music Awards - the hot version,” she added. Staying true to the bilingual nature of the show, the Mexican-born multiplatinum-selling singer and telenovela actress, who has previously hosted the Latin Grammy Awards, switched over to English for her next line.
